Disaster Planning
Disaster Overview
As climate and public health related disasters increase, the food system must be prepared to act in order to equitably ensure that all have access to healthy food. To promote equitable food access in a changing climate, we have developed a food system disaster response plan to expedite food distribution and access after significant storms or other emergencies. This will enhance food system connectivity and resilience, and coordination of programs.
The food system disaster plan will be activated once NOAA determines that New Orleans is in the cone of areas potentially being affected by a named storm or named hurricane.
For non-hurricane/storm events - emergency plan should be activated if any of the following are true:
Orleans Parish is evacuated for any reason.
Utilities are out and predicted to be out for more than 48 hours parish wide
Food and Farming Disaster Plan
When a disaster strikes, FPAC will…
Convene a standing food system specific zoom meeting space to ensure clear channels of communication, deploy networks and resources, and minimize duplication of efforts. Work with partners to help agricultural producers prepare for disasters and navigate post-disaster resources and processes.
Develop and continually update processes, long term resources, and infrastructure to be used for future disaster planning efforts
Deploy networks and resources in the event of disaster
Join the Food and Farm Disaster Meeting ONLY USE POST STORM
A standing Zoom call will be activated immediately following the occurrence of any named tropical storm or hurricane that hits the Louisiana Gulf Coast. Our goal is to bring food system people together to help our communities recover as quickly as possible. We aim to be coordinated, efficient, and most of all caring.
