City Council Shows Broad Support for Local Food with Policy Change.

(New Orleans, LA) On Thursday, November 7, 2019, New Orleans City Council approved two items that will increase both the access to fresh and local food and the economic opportunities for farmers, food businesses and entrepreneurs, through the Small Box Diversity Study and Resolution No R-19-456.

City Council votes to limit Small Box Retailers in New Orleans.

 These changes, recommended by the City Planning Commission, are the result of a City Council commissioned study about the effects of “Small Box Retailers” such as Family Dollar and Dollar General. The changes include defining fresh and frozen food, and setting minimum shelf space for fresh and frozen foods in new small box retailer.
